Helmets to Hardhats Canada

Helmets to Hardhats (H2H), a national not-for-profit organization that helps Canada’s military community transition into meaningful second careers while strengthening the unionized construction and related industries, has reached out to the BCICA to discuss contractor engagement.

Founded in 2012, H2H partners with Canada’s Building Trades Unions and affiliated employers to connect veterans, reservists, senior cadets, and military family members with stable, well-paid jobs that value their discipline, teamwork, and leadership. On average, H2H veterans are in their early 30s, early career military members with a decade of experience, now seeking civilian work that provides stability and purpose. Reservists bring strong teamwork skills, discipline, and commitment to both their civilian careers and military service, and they benefit from employment that supports and accommodates that service. Military family members also serve through their support of the military community and bring proven commitment, adaptability, and teamwork to the workforce.

Employers can access a national database of approved candidates or post opportunities, which can include apprenticeship intake, journey level positions, and non-bargaining unit roles such as administration, logistics, scheduling, estimating, safety, and site security. There is no cost for military members or employers to participate in H2H.

H2H advisors work with candidates to identify career and training opportunities that align with their military skills and experience, including crediting prior learning where applicable. Candidates are referred directly to unions, contractors, and employers who are seeking dependable, motivated workers. H2H advisors also assist employers with candidate matching, job postings, and identifying transferable military skills that align with specific trades or roles.
