Industry Education
Engineers and Specifiers
The BCICA offers the Engineering Community education with a three-step approach:
The BCICA provides Lunch and Learns to help grow and develop the mechanical Insulation industry from an engineering point of view.
The BCICA works with mechanical engineering companies to review, adjust, and improve mechanical specification.
The BCICA is available to answer technical questions from any mechanical engineer or mechanical engineering company.
Mechanical Contractors
The BCICA works in partnership to develop the highest quality standards in the mechanical insulation industry. Below is a list of common issues that BCICA mechanical insulators can help mechanical contractors address and solve:
Pre-commencement review meeting to sort thickness requirements, hanger requirements, and any other job-specific anomalies.
Timely pre-job communication with insulation contractor and advise as soon as possible when an area is ready for insulation.
Inclusion in the project schedule and sequencing to establish adequate timing, separate from HVAC and other mechanical trades, particularly on larger or more technical projects.
Canning and coring, establishing annular space is critical for firestopping and where continuous vapour barrier is required.
Ensuring hanger locations are never on an elbow, valve, or any fitting.
Ensuring pipe sizes and insulation thicknesses are compatible with band hangers so clevis hangers are not required.
Collaborating on improved layout designs.
Reducing or eliminating insulation damage after installations.
Ensure frequent system tests rather than leaving the joints open for a large system test.
Work specified requires insulating after testing.
