BCICA Manual – Insulation Scope of Work

As one of its earliest initiatives, the BCICA created the Quality Standards for Mechanical Insulation (Commercial and Institutional Buildings), a major undertaking that required a huge financial and time investment. Association members created the manual to address the need and desire for uniform mechanical insulation standards across the industry.

The BCICA Quality Standards for mechanical insulation materials and installation procedures are based on accepted standard practices and experience of the BCICA members and are published with the express purpose of assisting in the preparation of mechanical insulation specifications. In the BC market, most engineering firms refer to the BCICA Quality Standards as the base, minimum standard in their mechanical insulation specifications.

One of the important details included within the manual is the Insulation Scope of Work. The intent of this scope of work is to provide a format for mechanical insulation bidding that will ensure a secure interface and equal understanding between the bidder and the bid recipient.

There are 20 General Conditions within the Insulation Scope of Work that should be followed by all BCICA members.

For example .4 of the General Condition requires, “Finished insulation jacketing, where specified, will be included. Any additional metal shields, metal sleeves and/or insulated supports of any description for the support and/or protection of the insulation materials are not included in the base bid.”

The BCICA asks that all members review the Insulation Scope of Work to ensure they understand what should and should not be included in the base bid.

The BCICA expects all members to follow the BCICA Quality Standards to the highest standard. If you have any questions, concerns or recommendations for the BCICA Quality Standards, please contact the BCICA.
