Executive Director’s Report

Bradley Budden, Executive Director

Hello BCICA Members

The BCICA will be presenting updated bylaws at the AGM on November 14. Each and every BCICA member must operate according to the bylaws. For example, under the Part 2: Membership section:

Every member shall uphold, conduct itself in accordance with, and promote the constitution, bylaws, the association’s Code of Ethics, all rules, regulations, policies, and programs instituted pursuant to the constitution and bylaws, and the Quality Assurance Certification program and shall in good faith promote the Quality Assurance Program and the purposes of the association as contained in the constitution, bylaws, all rules, regulations, policies, and programs of the association pursuant thereto and in effect from time to time.

So what does this mean? As a member of the BCICA, you must operate under the above requirements. This is the minimum standard to which you must adhere.

The BCICA membership will be voting on the new bylaws at the AGM. If the new bylaws are approved by the membership, you can expect the BCICA to become stronger in policing the membership. The goal is not to discipline any members for not following the BCICA membership requirements. It is to work with all BCICA members to maintain and improve the mechanical insulation market.

If you would like to educate yourself about the constitution, bylaws, or code of ethics etc, please contact the BCICA.

Brian Britton Memorial Bursary Award

As the membership is aware, Brian Britton passed away this year. Brian was a member of the BCICA Technical Committee and a very respected member of our community. To honour Brian and his commitment to the industry, the BCICA set up an annual bursary reward for individuals that attended the mechanical insulation training centre. At the Christmas party we will be presenting four individuals with the first awards.

Time Zones

The Province of British Columbia has modified the time zone. You will need to review the time zone setting on your electronic devices. There is now a Pacific Time (PCT – British Columbia) that will replace the Pacific Time (US & Canada), indicating a year-round time zone that is expected to improve overall health and well-being and reduce scheduling disruptions.

To learn more about why BC adopted a single time zone, please visit https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/governments/celebrating-british-columbia/daylight-saving-time

Looking forward to seeing you all at the AGM and Christmas party on November 14. See our events section for more information or reach out with any questions.
