BCICA Welcomes New Member: Shield Mechanical Insulation Ltd.
Owen Joyce entered the mechanical insulation industry in 2017, gaining hands-on experience while working alongside his father-in-law at Wilmat Services Inc. In 2020, with his father-in-law’s mentorship and support, Owen launched Shield Mechanical Insulation Ltd.

“He still has a strong presence on the Island,” says Owen. “His support was instrumental in helping us establish the company.”
This foundation gave Shield Mechanical a strong start, inheriting a few key clients and upcoming projects that set the stage for future growth.
“We were very fortunate,” Owen reflects. “My father-in-law’s guidance and our early clients played a huge role in our success. Those relationships have been invaluable, and we strive to return that support through the quality of our work.”
Today, Shield Mechanical Insulation specializes in commercial pipe, HVAC, and sprinkler system insulation, as well as firestopping and fire rating solutions. Operating with a 12-person team, the company serves projects across the Lower Mainland.

“Our primary focus is mixed-use residential and commercial high-rise towers,” Joyce explains. “We’ve also been involved in chiller plant upgrades, hospital projects, and other commercial builds.”
Over the years, Owen and his family have found the industry to be both rewarding and relationship-driven, creating lasting connections with many in the industry. With more leading insulation companies joining BCICA, Shield Mechanical felt it was the right time to get involved.
“We’re excited to work on projects that require the Quality Assurance Certification,” says Joyce. “We appreciate BCICA’s efforts to keep industry standards high, and we look forward to seeing that commitment continue and grow”
At the heart of Shield Mechanical’s approach is a focus on long-term, mutually beneficial relationships.
“Our goal is always to add value to the projects we touch,” Owen says. “We see our company as a family that looks after one another—and we extend that same approach to the clients and partners we work with.”
