Mechanical

Mechanical Contractors

The BCICA works in partnership to develop the highest quality standard in the Mechanical Insulation Industry. Below is a list of typical issues that BCICA Mechanical Insulators would like to bring to your attention. The purpose of this list is to Educate and Inform only:

  1. Prior to a project beginning a review meeting with mechanical should happen to sort thickness requirements, hanger requirements and any other anomalies that maybe more job specific.

  2. Improved Communication Prior to Insulator coming on site (pre job) and advise ASAP when an area is ready for insulation before the drywaller/framer.

  3. How is the job going to be built/sequenced, include the Insulator in the project schedule. Add for insulation time on the schedules not just lumped in under mechanical or HVAC install time. Especially on larger or more technical projects

  4. Canning and Coring, annular space very critical for firestopping and also where continuous vapour barrier required.

  5. Hanger locations should never be on an elbow, valve or any fitting.

  6. Pipe Sizes and insulation thicknesses are not compatible with band hangers requiring clevis hangers to be used.

  7. Improved Layout Designs.

  8. Reduce/ Eliminate Insulation damage after installations.

  9. Test the system more often rather than make us leave “joints” open until a large system test

  10. Specifications require Insulating after testing.
